Who is DJ Jack Phoenix?
I have lived in Boston, MA all my life. I grew up listening to the distinct sounds of the 70s but I love the Goth/Pop/Industrial/Cultural innovation of the 80s, 90s and turn of the 21st century. The Beatles, Prince, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Sarah McLaughlin, The Cure, Skinny Puppies, Joy Division, New Order and Peter Murphy are all influences that have shaped and defined the types of music that I love to play anywhere and anytime.
However, I prefer being eclectic and finding items like Phil Specter’s Box set and the Wall of sound for which he was known for in his time or picking up magazines/history or billboard chart books that increase my knowledge about the background of a song, group or musician are some of the gems I pick up during my time hunting through second hand stores and flea markets. For example, did you know that modern music has its roots in the simple yet defining strumming sound of blues guitarist Robert Johnson whom is considered the Founding Father of Modern music?
Due to my years of collecting, I have an extensive compendium of cds that covers the spectrum of music from Jazz/Blues, Motown, Pop, Goth, Industrial, EDM to New Wave, Dark wave and Rock.
